Experience the Dutch language in small groups


The Dutch courses of AvaLingua are all about interaction and practicing your Dutch in real life. You will learn how to put your Dutch into practice in everyday situations. We will also be practicing this during our activities outside the classroom and for the online classes we created interesting different activities. Some examples of the activities are finding your way through the supermarket, interviewing people and ordering something in a cafe. In this way, you have the opportunity to experience using your Dutch together with other students (max. 7) while being guided by your teacher. Living and learning Dutch: That is the AvaLingua way of learning Dutch!

In short, during these courses you will learn and experience how to use the Dutch language actively in everyday situations. The main focus during the class will be on improving your speaking skills. Next to that, you we will improve your writing, listening and reading skills. We pay attention to grammar and vocabulary as well.

New ONLINE small group courses: full level courses (A1, A2, B1, B2.1, B2.2, C1,1), conversational courses (A2, B1, B2) and Architecture & Dutch (B1+) start in January.

I can't recommend AvaLingua enough! I've been studying Dutch with Avalon for already 5 years while doing my PhD. It was not always easy for me to find motivation and make myself learn the language, but Avalon knows how to make people interested in learning Dutch and how to motivate them. She has a unique talent to deliver difficult topics (this boring grammar) in an understandable manner, find interesting topics to discuss, and also introduce you to the Dutch culture during the class. She also has a talent to bring together super interesting people in the class, throughout the years I've met so many great medecursisten:) I just finished the B2 course, and now I can understand what is going on around me, to read, to write emails and motivation letters, and to speak!!! I have followed several courses with Avalon as well as taken private classes with her. She is a kind and skilled teacher, and she is also honest about the student's progress. She keeps patiently helping you until you have learned your goals. After taking courses and private classes with other language schools, I can with confidence say that Avalon offers high-quality teaching.

The groups are small, the levels between students are balanced and there is always enough time for everyone's needs. The courses contents are also well thought out: if you attend the classes and do your homework, you will improve your Dutch proficiency. The private classes are organized per student's needs regarding the content, but also the lesson times. Avalon helped me to strengthen my skills in general, improve grammar and pronunciation, but we worked on also on specific topics related to my work and study.

I joined the A1 course and I’m now at the A2 level! Avalon made the A1 course really interactive and gamified the lessons instead of instructing out of a text book. That's what made it easier to learn. The homework too was not boring and always relevant to day to day life. I really enjoyed all the classes and the group activities in the lessons. Avalon kept the classes light and fun which helped the learning a lot. She didn’t stress that it was tough learning the language and told us it was just a matter of practice. Her positivity and fun nature made the experience one that you will certainly remember. Learning A1 seemed easy, thanks to her. Before that, I was quite clueless where to begin and popular language apps were not well equipped to teach a new language. Avalon has taught Dutch to a lot of people i know, including my husband and she comes highly recommended. I started to learn with Avalingua since a bit less than a year. I am very happy with Avalon. We are learning and really improving. Ava is always here to help, answer questions, and always with a smile and humor.
I've done some cursus (university and private teacher) before but Avalingua is another level. Just so happy that I found them, I'm learning faster, understand things faster, and all from home because I have a busy schedule.
If you want to learn a proper Dutch (and not just check some box level for work) I would advice 10000x to start with them

Avalon is an amazing teacher, very kind and accommodating. Gezellige docent 🙂 I followed the A1 course, because I was interested to learn the language. Another + is that it offers a full online class which is very convenient for a busy professional like me, no need to rush in traffic, I just have to login to the class and meet the group ready for the next lesson! Now, I have more vocabulary and better understanding of basic grammar. During this A1 course, you will learn to make sense of the day-to-day Dutch words you hear. Before I started my Dutch Lessons at AvaLingua, I had a lack of confidence in speaking and grammar. Now, I am more comfortable with the language. I also like how each class is structured into time slots. You do different things in the same class so you keep your mind active all the time. I chose the classes at AvaLingua because of the small group courses and affordable fees. Are you considering classes with AvaLingua? Go for it! Don't have second thoughts.

I followed the A1 course, and soon will start with A2 course. The A1 course was very entertaining, I like the variety of material and how Avalon makes learning Dutch fun. The material provided also makes it easier to understand, it is very clear. I decided to take classes with AvaLingua because they are online and it was recommended by a friend. I recommend the course! But be motivated to do homeworks as well, otherwise you don’t learn. Go for it! 🙂

AvaLingua is a great place to learn Dutch. I follow private classes with Avalon and she has seen me grow from A0 to B1 very quickly. Although it is pricy, it's worth every cent. Avalon is a fantastic and patient teacher, she makes sure I understand all of the Dutch grammar and language rules before going to the next topic. The private classes with Avalon also offer a great deal of flexibility, so I can discuss a multitude of topics and ideas with her, especially ones that relate to my job. I highly recommend her if you're looking to learn Dutch at a deeper level!

Conversational courses 

Did you finish or almost finish the A1, B1 or B2 level? Do you want to improve your conversation and speaking skills in a small group (max. 7 students)? Then the conversational courses might be a good fit.

  • We focus on conversations that you could have in real life. We share our own experiences and get to know each other.
  • You will connect with other Dutch language students who are motivated and would love to improve their Dutch speaking skills.
  • All students are from different cultures and countries which make the conversations very interesting.
  • When you practice speaking Dutch on a regular base, you will see that soon you will feel more comfortable, more fluent and - very important - more confident.
  • Your vocabulary will grow and you sentence structures will improve.
  • AvaLingua will guide you: with some grammar explanation, feedback and help with your pronunciation.
  • The objective is that you speak as much as possible during this course!
  • Every week you will receive a few exercises to prepare for the class: it mainly focuses on gaining more vocabulary.
  • We could provide extra homework and an exam on request.
  • We will have once a week a group sessions of 2 hours.

Is a small group course Dutch something for you?

You will learn how to put your Dutch into practice in everyday situations. We will be practicing this during our activities outside the classroom. Some examples of the activities are finding your way through the supermarket, interviewing people and ordering something in a cafe.   • For specific information about C1.1. Check the section about C1.1.
  • Small groups: max. 7 students
  • Location: Online using Zoom.
  • Intake: before the start of the course we will do a free intake to get to know eachother, to see if our expectations match and to answer all the questions that you might have.
  • Homework: recommended 3-6 hours per week for the 15 week courses.
  • Costs of the course A1, A2, B1 B2.1, B2.2 or C1: € 545,- 
  • Costs of the study material:
    • A1: € 35,- (the A1 study material is including video recordings of similar classes)  
    • A2: € 36,50 
    • B1: € 49,50

  • Costs per exam: A1, A2 or B1: €37. (Note: a final exam for B2 and C1 is not included)

Are you a complete beginner and do you want to learn Dutch from scratch? Then this course will be a good option for you. During this course you will learn the basics of the Dutch language in a small group (max. 7 students). Every class, we will focus on different themes like: presenting yourself, family and doing groceries. You will learn useful vocabulary, the basics of the Dutch grammar and improve your communication skills. The best: you will speak Dutch from the very first class. The classes are interactive and they include many roleplays. Next to that, we will invite every now and then native Dutch speakers in the class. In that way, you can practice your Dutch even more. During the classes you will learn a lot of Dutch and besides that, we will have fun learning Dutch together.

The exact dates: Tuesdays 19:00 - 21:00

January 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd, 10th, (note: no class on Tuesday the 17th), 24th, 26th (note: this class is on a Thursday), March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 26th (note: this class is on a Thursday), 31st, April 7th, 14th.

Did you already learn the basics of the Dutch language and are you able to have some very simple and short conversations with neighbors or friends? Then this course will be a good option for you. During this course, you will learn even more Dutch in a small group (max. 7 students). Every class, we will focus on different themes like: cities, health and hobbies. You will learn useful vocabulary, how to speak about past events and improve your communication skills. The classes are interactive and they include many exercises and role plays. Next to that, we will invite every now and then native Dutch speakers in the class. In that way, you can practice your Dutch even more. During the classes you will learn a lot of Dutch and besides that we will have fun learning Dutch together. After completing this course, you have also reached the level necessary for the civic integration exam, ‘het inburgeringsexamen’ (A2).

You will learn how to express your opinion and describe your experiences. You will improve your communication skills. The classes are interactive and they include many different exercises. Next to that, we will invite every now and then native Dutch speakers in the class. In that way, you can practice your Dutch even more. During the classes you will learn a lot of Dutch and besides that we will have fun learning Dutch together. For this course, it's even more important to make time to do your homework weekly. After completing this course, you have also reached the level necessary for the Staatsexamen I (B1).

The exact dates are on:

B2.1 course - 15 weeks - Fridays 18:30 - 20:30

We decided to split up our B2 course in 2 courses of 15 weeks: B2.1 followed up by B2.2. In this way, we can spend enough time on the different subjects and you will be able to improve your Dutch even more and you will be ready to take the Staastsexamen II (B2).

For these courses, it's even more important to make time to do your homework weekly. After completing both courses, you have also reached the level necessary for the Staatsexamen II (B2). (Please pay attention: a B2 exam is not included in these courses)

About the B2.1 course: Do you already have a good knowledge of the Dutch language and did you finish the B1 course (and the B1 conversational)? Then this course will be a good option for you. During this course, you will learn a lot more Dutch in a small group (max. 7 students). Every class, we will focus on different themes like: sustainability, creativity and social behavior. You will learn how to discuss and talk about more complex topics. You will improve your communication skills. The classes are interactive and they include many different exercises. Next to that, we will invite every now and then native Dutch speakers in the class. In that way, you can practice your Dutch even more. During the classes you will learn a lot of Dutch and besides that we will have fun learning Dutch together.

In this way, we can really spend enough time on the different subjects and you will be able to improve your Dutch even more. We will also use a few classes to prepare for the Staatsexamen II (B2).

Are you already proficient in Dutch and are you looking to refine your language skills to an advanced level? Then this course is for you. Throughout this program, you'll practice in a small group (max. 7 students). We will use the book Nederlands naar perfectie and during this course we will cover the first chapters. We will discuss different topics while paying attention to the different skills: reading, listening, writing ad of course speaking. Moreover, we will focus on expanding your vocabulary. We take your Dutch to an advanced level!

Are you already proficient in Dutch and are you looking to refine your language skills to an advanced level? Did you finish the first chapters of the book Nederlands naar perfectie? Then this course is for you. Throughout this program, you'll practice in a small group (max. 7 students BUT we know this group will be very exclusive: we expect 3- 4 students.). We will use the book Nederlands naar perfectie and during this course we will cover the last half of the book. We will discuss different topics while paying attention to the different skills: reading, listening, writing ad of course speaking. Moreover, we will focus on expanding your vocabulary. We take your Dutch to an advanced level!

Learn Dutch in a course designed with your profession in mind.

Whether you’re sketching plans, participation in meetings, or presenting to the municipality, language plays a big role. This course is made for architects, urban planners, and spatial designers who want to feel more confident using Dutch at work.

In small, interactive sessions, we focus on the words, phrases and situations you actually need at the office, on the construction site, or during participation evenings with local residents.

Along the way, we also refresh key grammar points to help you speak more clearly and accurately. You’ll build your vocabulary, strengthen your speaking skills, and learn how to talk about space, design and decisionmaking in Dutch.

Would you like to join with colleagues? We can tailor the course to the specific needs of your team or company. From project vocabulary to practice with real-life scenarios, like meetings with the municipality or presenting design choices. We adapt the content to your daily work.
